A stainless steel chemical pressure vessel(1000l to 20kl) is a robust container specifically designed to hold gases or liquids at a pressure substantially different from the ambient pressure. These vessels are commonly used in industries such as chemical processing, pharmaceuticals, food and beverage, oil and gas, and petrochemicals.
Description of a Stainless Steel Chemical Pressure VesselA stainless steel chemical pressure vessel is a high-strength, corrosion-resistant container used for storing or processing chemical substances under pressure. Made from various grades of stainless steel (commonly SS304, SS316, or duplex stainless steel), these vessels are engineered to withstand internal and external pressures and resist chemical reactions or contamination.
Key Features:Material: High-grade stainless steel (e.g., SS316) for excellent corrosion resistance and durability.
Design: Cylindrical body with hemispherical or elliptical heads to evenly distribute stress.
Pressure Rating: Designed to handle both high and low pressures (typically up to 300 bar or more).
Temperature Resistance: Suitable for high-temperature applications (up to 600°C, depending on grade).
Compliance: Manufactured according to standards like ASME Section VIII, PED, or IS codes.
Finish: Internal and external polishing to prevent contamination and facilitate cleaning.
Safety Features: Equipped with pressure relief valves, manways, nozzles, sight glasses, and instrumentation ports.
Applications:Chemical Reactions: Reactors for conducting high-pressure chemical reactions.
Storage: Safe storage of corrosive or volatile chemicals.
Mixing: Homogenizing or blending chemical mixtures.
Heat Exchange: Used with jackets or coils for heating/cooling processes.

Pharmaceutical SS storage tank — 5000 L (complete practical spec & notes)

practical specification you can give to a fabricator or use as a checklist. I’ll state assumptions up front and show the dimensional estimate, materials, fittings, fabrication & testing requirements, and optional extras (CIP/SIP, jacket, instrumentation, docs).
Assumptions
Tank is vertical cylindrical storage, atmospheric service (not a pressure vessel), holding clean pharmaceutical product (liquid).
No continuous agitation required (if you need mixing, tell me and I’ll add an agitator spec).
Design follows common pharma sanitary practice (316L wetted parts, smooth finish, CIP/SIP-capable).
1) Geometry & estimated dimensions (practical example)I assume a vertical cylinder with 2:1 ellipsoidal heads (common sanitary choice).Volume: 5,000 L = 5.0 m³Shell internal diameter (approx): 1.85 mCylindrical shell internal height: 1.85 m (so shell height ≈ diameter in this example)Heads: 2 × 2:1 ellipsoidal (each ~0.25×D crown) → add ≈ 0.5×D to overall heightTotal external height (internal + heads): ≈ 2.78 m (internal) — include insulation/clearance as needed.> These dims are an engineering estimate based on V = π·D²/4 · H with H≈D. If you need a shorter/taller tank (different H/D), I can recalc exact dims. (I used standard geometry; final fabrication dims depend on wall thickness, linings and nozzle penetrations.)
2) Materials & surface finishWetted materials: AISI / EN 316L (SS316L) (prefer seamless/low-carbon 316L for weldability & corrosion resistance). Non-wetted structural parts may be 304 if cost is a concern, but avoid mixed metals in contact with product.Internal finish: mechanically ground + electropolished and passivated. Target Ra ≤ 0.8 µm (0.8 µm common) — for stricter pharma/cGMP, Ra ≤ 0.4 µm is recommended.
3) Construction & weldingWelds: orbital TIG welding for sanitary joints where possible; welds ground flush and polished (no crevices). Butt-weld or orbital welds recommended over threaded joints for wetted surfaces. Heads: 2:1 ellipsoidal (sanitary) or torispherical if specified.Supports: vertical skirt or tri/semi-saddle supports depending on installation; specify lifting lugs if needed.Insulation: optional (mineral wool) with cladding if temperature control required.
4) Typical nozzle / connection list (suggested)(Use sanitary tri-clamp ferrules or butt-weld flanges for wetted connections.)Top manway (for access/inspection): DN450 (18") round sanitary manway with gasket and lock.Product inlet (top or side): DN50–DN80 sanitary flange (tri-clamp).CIP inlet (top): DN50 with stainless spray ball (360°).Vent / breather: sanitary vent with 0.2 µm sterile filter (if sterile environment) or flame arrestor if needed.Bottom drain outlet: centric outlet DN40–DN50 with full-bore sanitary butterfly or diaphragm valve and drain pipe to floor drain.Sampling valve (side): DN15–DN25 sanitary sample valve (lockable).Sight glass / level gauge: local glass or magnetic level indicator (sanitary type).Instrument ports: RTD pocket (for temp), port for conductivity/pH sensors (with sanitary fittings).Pressure/vacuum relief: if tank closed, install spring-loaded PV valve sized appropriately.Cleaning return / overflow: as process requires.(Exact sizes depend on flow rates and process piping.)
5) Cleaning & sterilization (CIP / SIP)CIP: include CIP spray ball (or rotating jet) on top with appropriate inlet/nozzle; ensure no dead legs and smooth drain slope. CIP piping with tri-clamp fittings for quick disassembly.
